U. S. Silica Foundry Lab Resin Bonded Sand Testing Capabilities
The U. S. Silica Foundry Lab performs Cold Box, Nobake and
Warm/Hot Box resin bounded tests to assist our foundry customers in evaluating
resin and sand performance. The Foundry
Lab maintains a cache of USS foundry sands, resins and veining additives for
testing. To ensure emulation of foundry
conditions, the Foundry Lab is equipped with a humidity chamber to mimic resin
bonded sand performance in hot, humid conditions as well as cool, dry
conditions.
The
Cold Box uses DMEA to cure the cores and is purged with air, though the unit is
also capable of being purged with Nitrogen or CO2. In addition, the Gassing and Purge Times can
be adjusted to emulate conditions established at a given foundry.
In
addition to performing strength, density and permeability evaluations of resin
bonded sands; the Foundry Lab has the capability to make Cold Box or Nobake
Cores to be used for the evaluation of finish for both iron and aluminum
castings and veining in iron castings.
The
Foundry Lab also has the equipment to evaluate resin-coated sands.
